MAGMA / CommonSpace is a web of artists and people from different directions.
We created an autonomous, participatory, an open cultural and artistic space to explore new methods, mediums and technologies.
Our goal is to create an open public dialogue, focusing on the concept of Common place, Participatory Culture & Public Space, investigating and promoting the current Contemporary and Community Art in Greece.
We focus on the co-creation, the exploration of Contemporary and Digital Arts, also on Artistic Practice and Research, with the purpose to support the participatory culture in Public Spaces, as well as the democratization of theoretical and technical knowledge in relation to minorities.
The location of Magma space is connected with areas with different social, cultural, economic, historical or architectural characteristics such as the public working-class housings of Kallithea and N. Kosmos areas,
the industrial zone of Tavros, the old traditional neighbourhoods of Petralona as well as the high touristic and cultural area of Koukaki.
Our starting point is our Lab at 53 Tsaldari Street, Tavros-Kallirois, Athens - but you will also find us in Public Spaces where we organize actions, events, workshops, lectures, etc.

During the "Residents Days," we introduce artists and creators, hosting them and their works.
Our studio is open to visitors, on specific days of the month (OPEN SPACE-MAGMA DAYS) in order to get in touch with the artists during the process of the artwork production, The audience will have the chance to chat with the creators and study the hosted artistic projects, from the beginning to its completion and exhibition. Through this practice is given the chance to visitors to study and understand the theory, design, the different methodologies, tools and technics that concerns the respective projects.
OPEN PROJECTS 2022:
Through the performance and the creation of different conditions, the aim of the project is to explore new artistic approaches investigating the "interventive" routine and behaviour, focusing on the empirical - embodied knowledge and experience.
Through Art everyone has the freedom to present his own truth, to express his feelings, concerns and ideas away from stereotypes and conventions. Art is a necessity! It is our need to "speak" in another language, with other codes and to express what we are experiencing. In recent years of economic and energy crisis (also, in the time of the covid situation) Art is taking a social position. The need for communication, expression and creation is becoming more and more necessary on a personal and social level.
